Final Major Project

2020

My final major project for my Interior Design degree was based on the old Brains Brewery in the centre of Cardiff. The brewhouse and tower have become a local icon and will be the only parts of the site to remain after the area has been redeveloped into Central Quay. I wanted to create a green oasis in what was an industrial site and will be a built-up business area and so incorporated a community garden over 3 floors into the brewery, bar and restaurant space.

THIRD FLOOR - FUNCTION ROOM

The third floor has a function room which features a balcony area within the roof lantern that looks out over the long part of the building through the voids to the ground floor

SECOND FLOOR - RESTAURANT AND KITCHEN

The kitchen will provide community classes in cookery, preserving and growing fruit and vegetables as well as serving produce grown on site in the restaurant

FIRST FLOOR - BAR AND CASUAL SEATING

A long feature walkway over the garden room gives a peaceful place to sit away from the main bar seating area. A viewing window into the brewery below is situated in the bar itself.

GROUND FLOOR - GREENHOUSE AND CAFE // BREWERY

The Garden Room will include a “library of things”so that members can borrow tools, books etc. The centre section has access to the greenhouses on both sides of the building and members access is from the Garden Room. The microbrewery is on the ground floor of the short building and has its own access.
